The L Word

Over the past few days, I noticed that I couldn’t help but see absolute beauty in the faces of most people I encounter. I contemplate on their natural glow, mesmerized. I feel somewhat high on love - dancing in the waters at the shore of my heart.

And as this year comes to an end and my new adventure starts to unfold, I can’t help but see one evident theme that has waved up and down through the many milestones during the past months; love.

A year ago, as I came to mentally understand that I am the most worthy person in my life of my love, I “lost” whom I thought was “the love of my life”. Yet, in his space, a garden of new friends, acquaintances, thoughts, learnings and realizations bloomed. I did not realize how dependant I was on external love until I became surrounded with all that and still felt a void inside.

During my first few weeks in India, I came face to face with that void. With all my usual distractions and temporarily-filling attachments left back home, I felt harshly dry, unnurtured, lone and barren. In my “logical” head, I knew the answer, but accumulated experiences characterized by fear fogged my connection with the nectar of my heart. I struggled for days and nights, trying to find an answer, until one night, I fell down on my knees, sobbing like a child from the centre of my gut, pleading for an answer, promising to surrender to whatever it may be. My plea was answered magically and in the most unromantic way; 24 hours of diarrhea, vomiting and IV-drugging in an Indian hospital’s emergency room. After that culturally interesting experience - the sky was clear and I walked back to my room a cleansed and refreshed person. I’m not sure how, but it worked.

Love started to take new forms, shapes, flavours and lengths. With the letting go of many fears, love had a new air to be at ease. With the letting go of many attachments, love throbbed in a more present pulse. With love came compassion, joy and serene silence.

In this new state of experiencing love, I pause to wonder; why are we so careful about expressing love, receiving love and experiencing love? What’s the big deal about telling someone you love them? If it gives us such joy and pleasure to live love, why do we try to control it by understanding it? Why do we try to put rules for it, analyze it mathematically and treat it like a rigid mechanical state? Even fear of love is an expression of love.

Undoubtedly, each one of us goes through their own continuous journey to find love, peace and happiness. The beauty of it is that we may start at different places, take different paths, yet eventually, most probably, end up closer and closer to the same place we started; the most lively centre of genuine natural love; our hearts, within.

May you truly feel the love that you are. May you Love. May you Be.

Flee

Flee

I think
I might
There is a sexy possibility
That one day I would walk between these walls
Burn all the papers
Break all the glass
Throw all the dust outside the windows
Pack nothing but a sip of air
And walk away from this decadely limbo

For these night lights no more shine
And the roads keep vomitting rage
And this house I can no longer call mine
As peace here gets nightly raped

There is no light I see before me
There is but soot in every corner
There are no chirping tunes of victory
There are piles of weepers and daily mourners

Yet if, it happens, comes a day
Where we, desperate lot of a nation, have our say
What good will it do our battered hearts,
And how will they mend, our blood-etched scars?

How will we sleep,
Minds terror-free,
Of steel boots crashing through our dreams
How will we gather, without care,
That one of our breavehearts,
May no longer be there?

Why should I stay,
Do tell, my friend,
Why should I await a future I can't see?
How can I cling to a trace of hope,
If my nauseated instinct seduces me to flee?

Hearting Myself

I love my soft narcissism. I often say, with pride, that, "I am the centre of my own universe". I realize how unique I am, and how normal and natural I am, and I love it.

On some mornings, though, I wake up with a "terrorist" in my head as Lucy Roberts beautifully put it to us in a workshop last month. Its voice appears even before I open my eyes in the morning, it tells me what I should be doing, it recalls when and what I had for dinner the night before, it tells me I'm fat. I open my eyes, and it looks at harshly in the mirror. I wash my face, it tells me I'll be late for work. I twist my hair, it says my hair is out of control.

The terrorist in my head is very mean to me. I am being very mean to me. It takes effort to be nice. It is easier to be mean, especially it times of unbalance. And it is exhausting. It is very, very exhausting to listen to these abusive remarks so clearly first thing in the morning, and indirectly throughout the day. I need a break. I need a space where these thoughts would know they are not welcome. I asked myself how, and the answer came my way.

Today, I found the Heart Yourself Campaign. The idea is basically to highlight a thing you love about yourself, write it on a heart-shaped paper and place it somewhere you'd see every day. It is a wonderful idea to celebrate Valentine's - by strengthening one's own unconditional love instead of awaiting love from others. I'm not sure what exactly to expect from this - will let you know how it goes.

Here are some pics:

This one's in my bedroom:

The leftover looked too pretty to throw away:

7 Things I Love Despite What People Say

It's been a while since I shared my heart online. Today I visit again, maybe because I got a vitamin D shot and am bursting with more life :)

Thought I'd start with things seven I love doing despite what people say:

  1. I love wearing my hair short, even though people say I should let it grow longer. It makes me feel fresh and more in touch with nature, air, the sun.
  2. I love being vegetarian, even though people say it's unnecessary and abnormal. It makes me feel calm inside.
  3. I love traveling alone, even though people find it boring. It makes me feel independent, strong, competent, responsible, calm and confident.
  4. I love spending Friday and Saturday afternoons alone with my book and some tea at sunny cafes, even though some people feel sorry for me. It calms me down after a hectic week, and provides the space I need to spend calm time with myself. I love how I am not afraid of that, yet open to it.
  5. I love the fact that I've been in a 5 year long distance relationship with my boyfriend, even though people find it abnormal that we have not yet gotten married. It provides me with even more assurance that we are strong as a couple. It also gives me some sense of comfort and liberty having that space for now.
  6. I love eating the same food for breakfast and lunch 5 times a week, even though my colleagues find it boring. I find it amazing that I can cook the same thing 5 times a week, eat it, and still find it interesting and enjoy every bite.
  7. I love spending late time at work from time to time, even though some people think it is unfair and that I am losing my soul. It provides me with a quick fix of the sense of accomplishment and professional success.
That's my quick list for today. It doesn't matter what people say. If what you do doesn't bother you, why should it bother them..?

Peace and love.

..i am nothing..

I am nothing
There are a million clouds more than the twenty above my head
There are more countless stars than the ten I see
There are millions of fingers swinging lit cigarettes
Beside the one between mine

I am nothing
There are bitterer tears in the world
Redder eyes
Deeper wounds
Paler faces
Dryer throats
More mortifying fears
More perplexing confusions
More futures unclear
More absurd delusions

I am nothing
The blue floor
The blue fire
The blue longing for my lover
And the blue haze
Evaporate amid wailing cries
And mute agonies

I am nothing
And that makes me free

10 October 2007

Do you crave fire?

My palms are glowing with heat
My fingers weary of movement
This heat lingers strangely
Yet so familiarly
It never was me before
But always there
Here
Behind the curtains
On the stage
This heat shall burn the papers
I shall burn the papers
I will burn the bedsheets
I will burn the walls and the windows
And the smoke shall fill my lungs
And the flames shall crawl sleazily under my throat
And I shall suffocate
And I shall burst in flames
And I shall burn for I again
I shall erupt despite the Chain
And burst
And break
And free my veins
Flame by flame
Flame by flame..
