7 Things I Love Despite What People Say

It's been a while since I shared my heart online. Today I visit again, maybe because I got a vitamin D shot and am bursting with more life :)

Thought I'd start with things seven I love doing despite what people say:

  1. I love wearing my hair short, even though people say I should let it grow longer. It makes me feel fresh and more in touch with nature, air, the sun.
  2. I love being vegetarian, even though people say it's unnecessary and abnormal. It makes me feel calm inside.
  3. I love traveling alone, even though people find it boring. It makes me feel independent, strong, competent, responsible, calm and confident.
  4. I love spending Friday and Saturday afternoons alone with my book and some tea at sunny cafes, even though some people feel sorry for me. It calms me down after a hectic week, and provides the space I need to spend calm time with myself. I love how I am not afraid of that, yet open to it.
  5. I love the fact that I've been in a 5 year long distance relationship with my boyfriend, even though people find it abnormal that we have not yet gotten married. It provides me with even more assurance that we are strong as a couple. It also gives me some sense of comfort and liberty having that space for now.
  6. I love eating the same food for breakfast and lunch 5 times a week, even though my colleagues find it boring. I find it amazing that I can cook the same thing 5 times a week, eat it, and still find it interesting and enjoy every bite.
  7. I love spending late time at work from time to time, even though some people think it is unfair and that I am losing my soul. It provides me with a quick fix of the sense of accomplishment and professional success.
That's my quick list for today. It doesn't matter what people say. If what you do doesn't bother you, why should it bother them..?

Peace and love.

..a thank you note..

..As far as I can remember, I have always been bursting with energy. Be it as a baby (constantly crying), at school (trying to be a writer/singer), as a teenager (another attempt to be a singer plus poet plus artist plus social rebel), at university (trying to be a dancer/drama queen) and even today (picking random fights with my boyfriend/barely sleeping).

..I always throbbed with dramatic/highly hopeful energy, but there is only one person who brought guts to the equation and taught me to share my energy with the world, colour life in rainbow colours. And today, this note goes to him.

This one person is the only ex whom when I look at our pictures and recall our shared memories that mainly span over a period of one year only, I feel nothing. And feeling nothing about an ex, is something.

This person taught me how to be daring, random, crazy, loving, giving, proud, confident and know no boundaries. He took me by the hand, and all he did was give me the "why not?" look. And I did it. I did it all.

He did so not only by showing me a peak of joy and "fun", but also by driving me to the bleak nadirs of clinical depression. And although my heart ached, and I could not sleep for two months, I was thankful, for when it was over, I was reborn (with a cigarette between my fingers nonetheless, a tip I could not but follow from a friend who said, "here's a pack, so that when you're depressed you don't commit suicide, just smoke", a consequence I overcome a few years later, easily).

This person, among plenty of ex friends who left their mark and departed my scene, has contributed to my success as a living individual today, and when I open my red box full of memories, I look at him and feel nothing. Nothing at all, but perhaps some thankfulness.

Newsflash on Ex-Girlfriends & Ex-Boyfriends

Here are quick 5 points that you may want to take into consideration to make so many people's lives easier:
  1. Your ex is not your personal property.Your ex, as result of your breakup, is naturally going to see other people.
  2. Get over your ex and move on with your life. It's beautiful to remember the precious shared times, but extremely pathetic to cling to them hopelessly. As clichéd as it may sound: there are other fish in the sea.
  3. Cleanse your soul from resentment and bitterness.
  4. Respect yourself. Remember your dignity.
  5. Get laid. It helps you to move on.

On Loving Men with a Fearless Generous Smile

I know I'm not expected to be blogging – I just couldn’t resist posting this; my mind's been merrily active lately:

I, once, like so many young and old women, allowed myself to be victimized by men. I hated them. I cursed them all. In my mind, transformed them into very hot ovens and dumped all my anger, fears, and frustrations on them. But as soon as I’d spot one that could put a smile on my heart, my fuming view of the ovens would vanish. When that very same Mr. disappoints me, he would turn into another oven.

My above mentioned behaviour had disappeared by the age of 21.

After dealing with so many men, discussing the drama with so many friends, with the help of some literature and after reading Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, I came to the conclusion that my confusion has lead me to generalization as an attempt to deal with men in a unified and easy way. My approach was wrong. Well, at least it didn’t work well for me, as I realized the following:

1. Men are not always “evil”. They aren’t all and always “senseless”.
2. Women are not always “victims”. They aren’t all and always “abused”.
3. Human beings are diverse in their behaviour and their nature. Multiple factors beside their gender contribute to their attitudes.
4. Intimate relationships result in more emotional suffering due to closeness. The genders involved do not necessarily contribute to the severity of distress. We clash with our families all the time. We aren’t always on prefect terms with our mates. Amorous relationship hurt the most for a number of reasons, the below are simply a kick-off:
     a. We are not trained to handle the accompanying heartaches properly.
     b. The media only teaches us how to love and how to cry. Movies rarely introduce real-life solutions to break-ups and related difficulties, they usually propose more sex and/or love as solution. Hardly effective and usually complicating. (By the way, rebounds are one big joke I never really got).
     c. The detachment is usually more severe due to the intense emotional and social involvement in each other’s lives.
     d. Our hearts are involved!

Now, back to men. At the innocent age of 24, I still see so many women having the same sexist and generalizing attitude that I used to have a few years ago. It disturbs me a lot, mainly because these women are denying themselves the chance to embrace men and enjoy something they love to do: showering men with unconditional affection. Needless to say, they are being unfair towards men when most demand equal rights and treatment. Above all that, it reflects their fears, their tendency to feel victimized and their refusal to overcome the difficulties they face in such relationships.

From my point of view, women will only play a healthier role in their relationships with men once they shed their discriminating sexist views, stop looking at men as “the Other” and start loving them as fellow human beings.

I love men, and I am not ashamed of admitting that. I enjoy their existence. I just wish my fellow friends shared my point of view. The world would be a happier and healthier place, I promise.

Now I shall return to my vacation.

Damn Tango..

Ok, it’s not the only thing that’s troubling me at the moment, I have my career to worry about.. and pollution too… but let me share the following thoughts with you for now.

So you like someone (you’re a girl right now) and, knowing you won’t meet anyone else you might be interested in in the near future (you’re in Bahrain, yeah), you feel like making a move. On the other hand, this book you’re reading (yes, still am with “He’s Just Not That Into You”) says that if he liked you enough he would’ve called and basically meanwhile you should stick your fingers anywhere else other than on your cell phone’s keypad and wait for him to ask you out. What do you do?

I don’t like playing games. I don’t like pretending to be hard to get, because it’s not about that. I’m blunt and I’d give it to you “3ala bala6a” as often as I can. So why do I always feel like my honesty and transparency lead me to places where I’m embarrassed of acting so? Why can’t we all just be straight forward and quit that tango shit? Why are we so pressured to act these certain roles even when it comes to such personal and spontaneous situations?

On another note, embarak 3alaikom il shahar and may it be a month of joy and AWARENESS..

Cheers, people.
